Parrott 3.67-inch (20-pounder) Rifle

Courthouse Square - Hardin County - Eldora - 42.360183 by -93.098583

The cannon is a 3.67-inch Army Parrott rifle cast at the West Point Foundry in 1863 with a carriage and limber in great condition. The markings on the cannon are highlighted. In the early 1990’s, the late Gene Farmer rebuilt the carriage and limber. The cannon sets under a shelter for protection from the elements. Mr. Farmer had led efforts to provide the shelter along with restoration of the cannon and monument. The location is on the east side of the courthouse. Photos taken 1/27/08 and 5/19/20. Also included is an old undated copy of a postcard showing the cannon in a different location and without the shelter. Thanks to Danny Krock for providing this.

This is a 3.67-inch, 20 pounder Army Parrott rifle with an inscription on the front of the cannon mount. Contrary to the inscription, it is believed the cannon was cast at West Point Foundry in Cold Spring, NY in 1861. It is on the grounds of the Louisa County Courthouse, 2 blocks south of the business district. Photos taken 1/9/08 and 8/12/20.

Veterans Memorial - Pottawattamie County - Avoca - 41.477766 by -95.339183

Pictured is a 3.67-inch Army Parrott rifle. It was cast at the West Point Foundry in 1861. It is located in a nice location just north of the Avoca business district on Crocker and High streets. The area has been remodeled into a Veteran's Memorial. A carriage was built for the Civil War cannon. Thank you to Richard Hickman for the photos of this cannon - they were taken 10/6/12.
